Introduction to NAHS History

In 1978, the National Art Education Association began the NAHS program to inspire and recognize students who have shown an outstanding ability and interest in art. The program supports members in their efforts to attain the highest standards in art scholarship, character, and service and to bring art education to the attention of the school and community.

Our local chapter is formed by students meeting these standards according to our bylaws. Qualifying students go above and beyond being in Art classes and choose to participate in exhibitions and contests. They maintain good grades and conduct in all classes. Members complete yearly art related service hours on projects decided by NAHS officers and attend mandatory monthly membership meetings.

Interested students can apply in January of each year. Inductions for qualifying students take place in February. Membership rolls over each year as long as good standing in the organization is maintained. Members remaining in good standing through the end of their Senior year earn NAHS cords for graduation.
